More shit hits the fan

It turns out my jaw problem was not all I had on my plate. The shit keeps hitting the fan. Yesterday my doctor called to tell me that while examining my CT scan, he found a meningioma in the lining of my brain. Since he didn’t see it in the scan taken three years ago, he wants me to visit a neuro-surgeon.

I am learning more medical terms related to my own health (or absense of such), than in my whole career of a medical interpreter.

🙁

Shit hits fan

For nearly ten days I had very bad pain in the right-side jaw bone, the area that was supposedly healing after all the treatment I underwent in the past several months. Yesterday, I have finally received an explanation from my doctor.

Vadim,

You have a fractured jaw on the right side and that is the cause of your problems. I contacted my friend at Virginia Mason, Dr. Bayles, for his recommendation. I think you may actually need to have a reconstruction with bone and tissue from your leg, called a fibular free flap, placed in order to successfully treat this. I will let you know when I hear from him.

Something tells me I am in for a lot of fun.
🙁

I am also curious when/if I will ever be able to enjoy delicacies like this:

Viktor Shenderovich’s “da’s” drive me fucking mad.

Shenderovich is one of the few political observers worth listening to in today’s Russia, but he needs to fix a bad speech defect. After nearly every sentence, he says “Da?” It’s so fucking irritating and distracting… I cannot believe his friends never told him about it.

Here’s a sample of his da-da-da-ing. Recorded on May 12, 2011. Click the image above.

First impressions of Office for Mac 2011

Microsoft at its worst. I cannot open some of my existing documents, which were perfectly fine before. Such as templates for marriage, birth, divorce, etc. certificates in English, Russian, Ukrainian and other languages. Not good for someone who earns money translating such documents.

A short search on internet revealed that quite a few early adopting dudes complained about the same snafu. The only solution: wait for a patch from MSFT. Fuck you, Redmond jerks! Why can’t you test your $499.99 products properly before releasing them?
